Description:
Rewarewa (Knightia excelsa), or New Zealand honeysuckle, is a unique native tree that’s just as happy being planted on forest margins or on dry hillsides. With its tall, upright form and spectacular red flowers, it’s a magnet for birds and pollinators.
Fast & Hardy: Thrives in a range of soils, from lowland forests to dry ridges.

How to Use It
- Plant in mixed native forests, riparian zones, or erosion-prone areas.
- Pair with kānuka, mānuka, and kōwhai for a pollinator-friendly planting.
- Low-maintenance - Because it is slower growing than some of the revegetation shrubs, we recommend releasing in the Spring (maybe again in the Summer depending on weed growth.
