Kahikatea - PREMIUM GRADE

Description

Kahikatea (Dacrycarpus dacrydioides), NZ's tallest native tree, is a giant of restoration. This majestic tree is a cornerstone species for wetland and riparian projects, bringing stability, biodiversity, and a touch of grandeur to the landscape. Although slower growing than our native shrubs, it is the fastest growing of the long-lived emergent species. Which is why we see it dominating the Waikato landscape.

Wetland Wonder: Thrives in damp, swampy soils, making it perfect for wetland and riparian zones.
Wildlife Magnet: Birds like kererū and tūī flock to its berries, fruiting prolifically in autumn, while its towering canopy supports a thriving ecosystem.
Long-Term Hero: Although slower growing than our native shrubs, it is the fastest growing of the long-lived emergent species. Which is why we see it dominating the Waikato landscape.Kahikatea creates lasting impact for future generations.

How to Use It

  • Plant in lowland wetlands, along streams, or in damp, fertile soils.
  • Pair with flax and cabbage trees for a diverse wetland restoration.
  • Protect young trees from weeds and grazing animals while they establish.

Kahikatea is more than just a tree—it’s an ecosystem builder.
