Pittosporum Tenuifolium
Description
Pittosporum tenuifolium, or kōhūhū, is a fast-growing native that’s perfect for shelterbelts, forest regeneration, and biodiversity restoration. With its wavy-edged leaves, dark stems, and sweetly scented flowers, it’s both practical and beautiful.
Fast & Tough: Grows quickly in a range of conditions, from coastal sites to dry hillsides.
Pollinator Friendly: Its dark purple, honey-scented flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects.
Natural Windbreak: Dense foliage makes it perfect for shelterbelts and erosion control.
How to Use It
- Plant in mixed native shelterbelts, riparian zones, or as part of a fast-establishing native mix.
- Partner with the restoration 'Forward Pack' (karamu, mānuka, kānuka, cabbage tree kohuhu and akeake) for a fast-growing, biodiverse mix.
- Easy care— we recommend releasing in the Spring (maybe again in the Summer depending on weed growth), then let it grow.
Pittosporum tenuifolium is a restoration all-rounder, offering fast shelter, pollinator support, and year-round greenery. Plant it and watch your landscape transform!
